Athens, Illinois - March 19, 1926
The death of Charley Zalenas occurred at St. John's hospital in Springfield, Sunday afternoon, March 14, 1926, at 2:10 o'clock after a short illness from pneumonia, at the age of 53 years and 10 days.
He was born in Lithuania on March 4, 1873. On February 5, 1898, he was united in marriage to Miss Agnes Rudikus. To this union seven children were born, six of whom survive.
On March 19, 1900 the family came to this country and settled in this city where they have since resided.
Mr. Zalenas was a quiet, unassuming man and was held in high esteem by all who knew him. He was a man who always took pride in his home and in the advancement of his community.
Surviving are his wife, six children, Mildred and Tillie of Chicago; John of Decatur, and Joe, Mary and Walter, at home; one brother, John, of Springfield, and four sisters Mrs. Nick Rekus of Chicago; Mrs. Rose Zalkauski of Schenectady, New York, and Mrs. Victoria Burkowski of Lithuania.
Funer services were held at the Holy Family church in this city, Wednesday morning, March 17, at 9 o'clock.
Interment was made in Calvary cemetery.
