George Davis

I George Davis of the County of Menard and state of Illinois do make and publish this my last will and testament in manner and form following that is to say

First it is my will that my funeral expenses and all my just debts be fully paid

Second I give devise and bequeath to my beloved wife Mary Davis in lieu of her dower the plantation on which we now reside situated and being in the County of Menard and State of Illinois nown and designated as following to=wit=The west half of the north east quarter of Section thirty-one in township eighteen north of Range seven west in the district of lands offered for sale at Springfield, Illinois also all that tract of land lying in the County and State aforesaid none and designated as follows to=wit=The South west quarter of the Southeast quarter of Section twenty in same town and range during her natural life or widowhood or untill the youngest heir becomes of age then the last named piece of land to be sold at publick auction to the highest bidder and the procedes of the sale to be equally divided between my lawful heirs and James M. Jones. My wifes eldest sone and that my wife Mary retain and keep in her possession all the Live Stock horses cattle hogs and sheep by me know owned and kept also the Household and kitchen furniture and all other items not otherwise disposed of or so much as may be necicary to Stock and carry on the farm to the best advantage and the procedes to be aplyed to the suport of my family and to the education of my children and the balance to be sold at the expiration of twelve months after my decease at publick auction. The procedes of the sale to be equally divided between my lawful heirs & James M. Jones after deducting out an amount for each minor heir equivolent to the amount already received by those that have become of age. And at the death my said wife, the balance of the land and personal property to be sold at publick auction and equally divided between my lawful heirs and James M. Jones.

And lastly thereby constitute my wife Mary Davis and my friend Wm. T. Beekman to be the executors for this my last will and testament revoking and anuling all former wills by me made and ratifying and confirming this and no other to be my last will and testament.

In testimony where of I have here unto set my hand and seal this fifth day of August in the year of our lord one thousand eight hundred and forty five.

$115 received April 20th AD 1859 of Wm. Beekman & Mary Davis Executor and Executrix of the last will and testament of George Davis deceased one hundred and fifteen dollars and 41/000 being my wife Narsisa's distributive share as daughter and legate of law George Davis, of the proceeds of the first sale of Real estate made by said executors (May 1st 1858) under the provisions of the will of the said George Davis.
