Circa '21 is in the historic Fort Armstrong Theatre. Opened in 1921, the theatre was originally a vaudeville and silent movie house,and was among one of the most popular in its day.
Walter Rosenfield and Joseph Hopp invested their time and money in the theatre saying that they had faith, in the film industry,and also the Rock Island area The cost of the theatre's construction was $500,000 a huge sum in its day.
Architect Benjamin Horn used Fox and Sauk Indian symbols for his design. In the late 70's, Dennis Hitchcock purchased the theatre, terraced the main floor, installed tables, and renamed it the 'Circa 21 Dinner Playhouse'. Mr. Hitchcock left the theater's color and style as they had been.
In August of 1976, the theatre was purchased for its present use as a dinner theatre After remodeling, Circa '21 Dinner Playhouse opened in June of 1977 as the Quad Cities' professional theatre. In 1978, the Fort Armstrong Theatre was listed on the National Register of Historic Places
Muscials, comedies, children’s shows and also celebrities are on the schedule. This is a wonderful place to spend the evening and the food is great!
