BOUNDARIES

Cordova township is one of the original townships, and was organized in 1857. It is bounded on the north by the state of Iowa by Whiteside county, Illinois on the east, Coe and Port Byron townships on the south, and on the west again by Iowa , the Mississippi river flowing between.

This township was one of the earliest to receive permanent settlers.

Here as elsewhere, trav elers passed through, admired the location, and perhaps remained for a few weeks, but such as these, aside from bearing to the outside world a favorable report, had little or no influence upon the development. It was the men who came here with the definite purpose of founding homes, not only for themselves, but those to come after them, who made real history, and changed Cordova township from a beautifully scenic wilderness, to a settlement of thrifty and prosperous farmers, who, while admiring the view, realized the importance of tilling their land, and improving their farm property.
