Mrs. D. W. Hunt Dies After an Operation Beloved Woman, Resident in County Fifty-four Years, Is at Rest Active in Church Work Husband and Six Children survive and Host of Friends Are In Mourning
Word of the Passing of Mrs. D. W. Hunt, resident of Rock Island county for more than half a century which occurred at 5:50 Sunday evening at the city hospital causes sorrow in many homes.
Mrs. Hunt had been slowly failing for a year and Friday of last week she was removed to the hospital, where an operation was performed Saturday morning. She rallied and prospects for recovery seemed bright until Sunday and then a turn for the worse came and she sank rapidly.
Mrs. Hunt was a member of the First Congregational church of this city for thirty years, and had long been active in the Ladies' Aid society. In her home she was adored and the bereaved relatives have the sympathy of friends throughout the county. Arrangements for the funeral will not be made till word has been received from all the children, thought it is requested at this time that no flowers be sent.
Emma Ann Mary Wells was born in 1848 in Portsmouth , Ohio , and when a girl moved to Binghamtom, N. Y. In 1959 she came with her family to this county, settling in Rock Island . In 1861 they moved to a farm near Hampton , and in 1868 Miss Wells was married to D. W. Hunt, then of South Moline . They lived two miles east of the city until 1891, when Mr. Hunt retired from the dairy business, and the family moved into town, living since at 619 Eighteenth Street .
Beside the husband six children survive: S. H. Hunt, W. P. Hunt, and Mrs. Wilton Parsons of this city, E. C. Hunt of West Liberty , Ia. , Francis W. Hunt of Toronto , Canada , and Mrs. Joseph Jenkin of Lake Linden , Mich. Three brothers surviving are Fred I. Wells of Kewanee, Arthur Wells of Brooklyn , N. Y. and Henri E. Wells of Geneva , N. Y. One sister, Mrs. Jeannie Wells of (? can't read) also is bereaved.
There are fourteen grandchildren.
