George W. Johnson
President and treasurer of Moline Furniture Works, Mr. Johnson was born October 9, 1857 in Henry County . His parents were early settlers of that county. They were Sven P. Johnson and Christina Johnson. He and his parents and Brother Julius were prosperous farmers in Henry Co. In Sept. of 1889 the elder Mr. Johnson died and both George and Julius decided to pursue other interests. George moved to Moline and became interested in the manufacturing of furniture. He then joined some of his fellow Swedes in a cooperative plant known as the Moline Furniture Works .He also became interested in politics and became postmaster of Orion and was elected twice to the Illinois State legislator in the forty-first and forty-second General Assembly. He married Caroline F. Hagg on May 31, 1882 and had three children: C. Mauritz ( July 11, 1885 , Estey E. Dec.31, 1887, George Franklin May, 29, 1895 . The family was devoted members of the Swedish Lutheran Church in Moline .
