HOLMES HAKES

President ot Rock Island Paper Co., and Agent for Domestic and White Sewing Machines, R I.; residence cor 19th st and 6th av; born in Onida Co.,K Y., March 5,1816; came to this Co. 1847; Rep; Mr. Hakes was the originator of the R. I. & P. R. R.; was its first Superintendent; the first engine run over the road bore the name of Holmes Hakes; was also the originator and is President of the beautiful Chippiannock (the Indian name for the place of the dead) Cemetery; married AlinedaRiggs, of Ky., July, 1841; has four children.
