In sen'ing the public office to which he was elected he faithfully believed that "A public office was a public trust" and his aim was to give all justice and service to the fullest extent of his ability and power in office. His word was his bond and so taken and accepted in his public life and his dealings with his fellow man. He had his trial and struggles in early young manhood and he never forgot the man who extended to him a helping hand. The writer knew him from the time he was a young man , he knew him as a politician, as a citizen but knew him best as a friend.

He was a great admirer of America's national game and knew the points of baseball from A to 2, there was jew games played here or in the tri-cities that John Ranbarger did not attend.

Anna and her family left Göteborg on May 21, 1869 aboard the HERO II and went to Hull, England

the family then took the train to Liverpool.

New York Passenger Lists 1851-1891

Anna and her family arrived in New York at Castle Garden on June 15, 1869aboard the City of London

Anna was naturalized in 1875 in Knox County. Then moved to Rock Island on July 26 1876

Her and John were married by Rev. Rowe in Davenport, Iowa's Christian Church parsonage. John's mother, Sarah Ranbarger, was the witness for the marriage licence.

When Aunt Winnie Brandenburg was born her legs were crippled and curled up under her, every day Anna would send,John down to the tavern to get a bucket of whiskey and Anna would rub and message the whiskey into Winnie's legs, slowly her legs uncurled and eventually she was ale to walk.

The children all thought that Anna had eyes in the back of her head, she had told Punk to do something and Punk stuck her tongue out at Anna but little did Punk know that she was in front of the mirror and Anna saw her and told her that she had eyes in the back of her head and the grandchildren all looked for them!!

Anna had a lot of sadness in her life in 1906 her mother Carolina died August 10. On December 5 the same year her mother in law Sarah died. On December 21, 1917 her father Carl died and the next month on January 30, 1918 her husband,John died. In 1919 her daughter Goldie died at the age of 30. In 1832 two of her daughters Myrtle and Maude died. Myrtle at the age of 50 and Maude in May at the age of 48. In 1935 her grandson Charles "Deed" was killed at the age of 35.

It was said that Anna was a snveet quiet lady who loved her children and grandchildren and the house on Water Street was always full of children and family. After John died she lived with daughter Mabel and grand daughter Gertrude and took in laundry and ironing for extra money.
