My father is William Liptom McConkey and his mother was Mary Lipton before she married.  Her father was Sam Lipton, one of twelve children from the marriage of George Lipton and Bessie Jane Lipton (Johnston).  George built his first farm in Preemption and the property has been in the family since the late 1840s--but I think was recently sold by Fred Lipton's family, a son of one of the twelve children of Bessie and George.  My great grandfather, Sam, moved from this farm and eventually got his own 1/4 section in Rural township, Rock Island County .
