2. i. DOROTHEA M.3 BRANDENBURG, b. October 18, 1904, Milan,
IL; d. February 19, 1994, Alexis, Ill. WINNIFRED LUCILLE BRANDENBURG: Birth Announcement Milan Independant Mr. and Mrs. C.H. Brandenburg welcomed the arrival of a little daughter, born last Saturday.
Aunt Winnie was one of a kind! I knew her all my life, she was smart, funny, loved to dance. She used to teach dancing. She loved to joke and make people laugh. She worried about everything and was a very nervous person. Dr. Eddy said she was born with a veil over her face and it was said that she could tell the future. She loved her beer and cigarettes. She drank and smoked until she went into Oak Glenn Home when she was 87. She had a very sharp memory and could tell stories in great detail of when she was a little girl. I learned a lot about family history from her. Her mother Maude was epileptic and suffered from a nervous condition so Aunt Winnie was more or less raised by my great grandmother Mabel and spent most of her time with my grandmother. I remember going there on Sundays and some holidays. She always used to take Marsha and I to the bathroom until we were 13 or 14!!! My mom and Barbs and Donna used to spend the nights with her when they were small. Aunt Winnie had such wonderful stories to tell about Mom and Uncle Ron when they were little. I took care of her for the last 8 months of her life and before that her niece Phyllis took care of her. She was tiny measuring only 4 ft 10 inches and weighed about 105 lbs. When she was young she was adored by almost every man in Milan. She was married four times before she met and married Uncle Joe in 1938. She was never the same after he died in 1976. She became a hermit and never went anywhere. The last day of her life she thanked me for taking such good care of her and called me her little girl and told me she loved me. Phyllis and I were at her bedside when she died.

She was also a member of IHN King's Daughters. She enjoyed fishing, bingo, euchre and dancing. Survivors include several nieces and nephews. She met Uncle Joe in Davenport at a bingo game where she had gone with her father. Aunt Winnie and Uncle Joe were very close.
