H. W. COOPER SADDLERY HARDWARE MANUFACTURING COMPANY

This business was originally started in Chicago in 1879. It was moved to Moline in 1888, and established under the name of C. J. Cooper and Company (C. J. and H. W. Cooper), continuing to manufacture saddlery hardware.

On January 24, 1890, H. W. Cooper bought the interest of C. J. Cooper, who entered another line. The business ran under the name of H. W. Cooper until June 29, 1907, when it was incorporated under the present name, the H. W. Cooper Saddlery Hardware Manufacturing Company, with a capitalization of $250,000, C. J. Cooper returning to the business at that time as vice-president of the company.

A malleable iron foundry was added to the plant at a cost of over $100,000, this being rendered necessary owing to the diffi culty .of obtaining malleable castings from outside sources. This step has not only greatly increased the original business but has added a good business in furnishing refined malleable castings for others. The number of employes has increased from thirty to 300, and the output from $30,000 annually to $300,000. since the business was moved to Moline. In 1909 H. W. Cooper, Jr., came into the business, being now secretary of the company.
