Moline Swedish M.E. Church

The Swedish Methodist Church occupied this facility at 5th Avenue and 16th Street from 1889 until 1912. Founded in 1849, the congregation was first at another site. Then in 1871 they bought a church building from the American Methodist Church and moved it to this location, only to replace it in 1889. The building pictured was directly in the path of a burgeoning new downtown and was torn down in 1912 and replaced by a new Moline Commercial Club building. At that time the Swedish Methodists moved to a new church on the hill (at 13th Street and 12th Avenue), thence changed their name to Bethel Methodist Church in 1934
