EDITH GOTOBED BRANDENBURG DICKSON

Edith Gotobed Dickson was known as "Grandma" or "Aunt Edie" to many who knew her in Milan

Edith Webb Gotobed was born Oct. 22,1855 in Cleveland , Ohio , a daughter of Joseph and Betsy Barnes Gotobed, who came to America from Cambridgeshire, England in 1854. When she was 10 years old, the family moved to Bowling township where her father operated one of the first big fruit farms in Rock island county. She was educated in Bowling township schools and attended a girl's boarding school in Rock Island .

She married Charles H. Brandenburg Nov. 2, 1880 in Bowling. He died Nov. 2, 1903 . Later, on Nov. 21, 1905 , she married William Dickson in Milan, his grandfather being William Dickson, the founder of Milan.He died May 15, 1937 .

Mrs Dickson who was a member of the Milan Presbyterian church for more than 60 years, was an active church worker throughout h«r life. She was a member of the Ladies Aid society and the Mary Martha Missionary group of the church. She was also a charter member of Milan Chapter, No. 326, Order of the Eastern Star

She was the mother of two sons, Charles A. (Chick) Brandenburg, Rock Island county deputy sheriff, with whom she resided, and William D. Brandenburg, both lived in Milan.

She also had four brothers Joseph, William, George and Samuel Gotobed.

Edith died August 12, 1949 in Milan, Illinois.

The Milan Presbyterian church was filled to capacity at her funeral on Monday afternoon by the many friends and relatives who gathered to pay final respects to the memory of the tiny woman, whose sweetness and wonderful disposition endeared her to all.
