The Pioneer Association.
On the 10th day of January, 1866, an Old Settlers' Society was formed at Rock Island , composed of the pioneers of the county. Annual meetings are held on the ist Monday in February for the election of officers, and on the evening of Feb. 22, an annual supper is served. Annual picnics are also held in summer.
On the organization of the society Hon. Bailey Davenport presented it with a cane for the use of the presiding officer, made from wood from the old Barrel House, built by Davenport and Farnam. On its gold head is a place for the name and date of election of each president. Twenty men have filled the office to the present time. The names are given in the order in which they served: Patrick Gregg, John W. Spencer, Jacob Nbrris, Lucius Wells, John Eby, John A. Boyer, David Hawes, William Bell, A. K. Philleo, W. E. Brooks, Isaac Negus, James Taylor, Elton C. Cropper, Frazer Wilson, N. Belcher, Charles Laflin, Adolphus Dunlap, Daniel Mosher, E. P. Reynolds, John Lusk.
