Pinkley Reminiscences of early days in Milan notes that a pottery was started here for D. Pinkley and sons and was run for several years by B.C. Pinkley. It was on the lot on Dickson Street now Brown owned by the heirs of Oliver Brown who died here several yr's ago,
COAL VALLEY: Morris Mulligan of Farmington has returned home after visiting relatives here.
Edward Bruwalder froze to death between Saturday night andTuesday morning. Be lived alone in a shanty near the farm of Louis Vetter. He was found by Leonard Swinker, aged 86 years, on the side of the lane that leads to his cabin. The deceased was born in Switzerland and was aged 63 years. Re has lived in this vicinity for over 30 years and leaves 2 children in the Old Country and.one sister in Indiana. (February 4th issue: The late Ed Bruwalder also had a sister at Terre Haute, Indiana who was at one time employed by Mr. Vogel in Rock Island. She later married a slaoonkeeper in Terre Haute.)
Thomas R. Meehan who was raised in Milan and who left here with his parents for Iowa 20 years ago, has been selected as sheriff of Denison Co., Iowa.
Miss Isla B. Cannam left Tuesday for Henderson, Nebraska.
Delmar B. Smith who lived here for a number of years when he was a boy, is now a resident of Monmouth, Warren County.
ANDALUSIA: David Finley died January 12th at the home of his daughter, Anna Spigles in Andalusia. He was born 24 March 1828in Westmoreland Co., Pennsylvania and came to Peoria, Illinois in 1849 and lived there for 1 year before coming to Rock Island County where he has since lived. He married Anna Carter on25 March 1851; she died 29 September 1880. They had 6 children, 4 of whom are dec'd. The 2 surviving children are David L. Finley of Reynolds and Anna wife of Geo. Spigles of Andalusia.The funeral was at the Methodist Episcopal Church with burial Thursday in the Andalusia Cemetery.

The Rev. Joseph Platt, an aged Presbyterian minister, died January llth at his home in Davenport, Iowa aged 94 years. After his retirement from the ministry, he went to KansasCity Missouri but came with his family to Davenport in 1893. The funeral was yesterday at the 1st Church in Davenport.

Mrs. Jane R. Davis died Friday. She was born in 1818 in Fort Ann , New York and married William R. Davis on 5 June 1842 after ' coming west and locating in Rock Island in 1867. Mr.Davis died in Rock Island in 1869 and Mrs. Davis then moved to Milan with her family. The surviving children are D.C. Davis and Miss Edith Davis at home; William R. Davis of Wisconsin ; John Davis of Redland , California . She is also survived by 2 sisters Mrs. Margaret McGhee of Mechanicsville , New York and Mrs. A.Mosher Mosher of Meadville , Pennsylvania . The funeral was at the Presbyterian Church with burial in Rock Island 's Chippiannock Cemetery .
Mrs. Bridget Lane died Saturday aged 68 years. She was born in Ireland and had lived in Milan for 28 years. She is survivedby her husband, a daughter Mrs. Carl Zeitchel of Milan ; and by 5 sons: William Lane in California ; John Lane In Arizona; Edward Lane and Simon Lane in Colorado ; and Michael Lane in Alaska . The funeral was Wednesday at St. Joseph 's Church in Rock Island with burial in the Calvary Cemetery in Rock Island .
Mrs. Sarah A. Wysong, mother of Charles Wysong of Milan , died January 19th at her home in Mineral, Illinois . She is survived by her husband and by 11 children. The funeral was Thursday at her home with burial in the Fairvlew Cemetery
Susan, wife of the late Thomas Hutchinson, died Monday at the family home in Bowling tnp. She was born in County Fermanth , Ireland and came to the United States in 1847, locating in Rock Island County . She was 70 years old. The funeral was Wednesday with burial in the Pre-emption Cemetery .

Reminiscences of early days in Milan: a sawmill operated by Garret Davis and sons was built in 1845 at the mouth of Mill Johnson Creek on land owned by M.T. Johnson. Mr. Davis' eldest son James was killed in a gun accident.

MOLINE: John D. Smith, a saloonkeeper at 222 3rd Avenue, Moline died Monday in his saloon, aged 57 years. He was a native of Belgium and came to this country 13 years ago. He is survived by his wife and several children.

Mrs. Mary Curtis died last Friday at Harlan , Iowa aged 82 years. She is survived by her husband and these children: Mrs. Adelia Hodge of Los Angeles, California; Mrs. Jennie Hall and Edwin Curtis of Plainville, Kansas; Albert Curtis of South Auburr., Nebraska; Wesley Curtis of Beloit, Kansas; Mrs. Jerusha Wright of Harlan, Iowa; and Mrs. Laurinda Wilson of Shady Grove, Ills. She was a resident of Milan for a number of years.
The funeral of the late Peter O'Farrell of 9th Street, Rock Island was last Saturday at St. Joseph's Church. Father O'Farrell of Iowa City is a brother of the dec'd.

Mrs. Jonas Bear died Friday at the family home on 18th Street. She was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Julius Mosenfelder and was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1852. She came to Rock Island with her parents at*,the age of 5 years and married Jonas Bear in Rock Island 31 years ago. She is survived by her husband and 4 children: Alfred Bear, Miss Maud, Miss Myra and Miss Seima Bear. She is also survived by her parents, by 3 brothers: Alphonse, Eli and Louis Mosenfelder and by 2 sisters Simon Mrs. Leopold Simon and Mrs. Louis Kohn, all residing in Rock Island. The funeral was Sunday.

Mr. J.K, Reherd died January 31st at Geneseo, Henry County. He was the father of H.W. Reherd who was pastor of the Milan Presbyterian Church from 1897-1901.
Carrie, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Heverling died Tuesday at the family home in Milan aged 1 year, 3 weeks. The funeral was Thursday with burial in the Dickson burial ground.

Pitman Recently, Joseph Pitman, an aged farmer who lives near Cable, Mercer County, sold the coal under his 40 acre farm for $7500.
Charles Hllderbrand, a farmer living 1/2miles north of Pre-emption on the Joe Johnston farm, died Wednesday in his barn. He is survived by his wife and 4 children: Charles, aged 22 years; Annie aged 19; Francis aged 16; and Earnest aged 11 years, all at home.
The 5-year old daughter of Jacob Tanner, a resident of Blackhawk township, died Tuesday when accidentally shot while playing with her sister Clara aged 9 years. ANDALUSIA: Henrietta M., wife of the late Seth R. Buffum, died Saturday at the family home at Elgin, Nebraska aged 77 years. She was born Henrietta Atsood in Vermont and as a child, she came to Illinois with her parents. After her marriage, she became a 'resident of Andalusia for 15 years and they then moved to Nebraska where her husband died some years ago. She is survived by a son, A.A. Buffum and by a daughter, Mrs. Jerome Brown with whom she resided. She is also survived by 4 sisters: Mrs. I.M. Pease : and Mrs. C.J. Philbrook of Yates City, Illinois; Mrs. Lucia A. Thomas of Vermont; and Mrs. D.L. Buffurn of Elgin, Nebraska. (February 25th issue: The funeral of Mrs. Buffurn was at the home of her daughter, Mrs. M.J. Brown at Elgin, Nebraska on February 14th with burial in the Elgin Cemetery.)
SEARS: Dr. C.E. Crouch has closed his dental parlors in Rock Island and left Tuesday with his father, J.E. Crouch to manage a 100-acre apple orchard in the Ozark Mtns in northwestern Arkansas. The family will follow later.

Ashley Swathouse, aged 19 years, shot himself on Wednesday at his home near Hamlet, Mercer County. (February 25th issue: the funerwal was at the Presbyterian Church with burial in the Hamlet Cemetery. He is survived by his father, 2 brothers and 1 sister. His mother died some years ago.)

Mrs. Henry Wilson, nee Miss Emma Hoefle, died February 9th at her home, 1 mile north of Pre-emption. The funeral was Thursday with burial in the Little Cemetery beside her infant daughter who died a week ago. She married Mr. Wilson in March, 1902 and was aged 22 years. She is survived by her husband, her parents - Mr. and Mrs. George Hoefle of Sherrard; and by 4 brothers - George, Fred, Chas. and Paul Hoefle; and by 3 sisters: Mrs. Mary Johnson of Cable, fiercer County; Mrs. N.W. Vanderslice of Milan and Kate Hoefle at home.
Judge E.E. Parmenter has learned of the death of his aunt, Mrs. Margaret McGrew on Monday at her home in West Branch, Iowa aged 84 years. She was born in Westraoreland Co., Pennsylvania and came to Rock Island County with her parents as a child, being one of the early settlers here. She married A.L. McGrew at Illinois City in 1839 and they settled on a farm in Buffalo Prairie tnp where they lived until 20 years ago when they moved to West Branch. Her husband died several years ago. She is survived by 2 sons and 3 daughters - Simon McGrew of Pasadena, California; Logan McGrew of Gilman, Iowa; Mrs. Maggie Faucet and Miss Bell McGrew of West Branch, Iowa; and Mrs. Nancy Thompson of Pasadena, Calif. She is also survived by 2 sisters and 1 brother: Mrs. Sarah Vanatta of Reynolds, Iowa (sic?) and Mrs. Eunice Moorehead of Woonsocket, S. Dakota; and James Robbins of Unionville, Mo.

Johnson Clara, wife of Charles Johnson, died February 19th at Plattsmouth, Nebraska. They were formerly of Milan. The funeral was Monday in Rock Island with burial.in the Chippiannock Cemetery. She was born 31 January 1864 in Milan, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A.R. Brown.She was raised and went to school here and was married to Chas. R. Johnson in 1886. They spent the first 2 years of their marriage at Hawarden, Indiana and the last 16 years at Plattsmouth. She is survived by her husband and a daughter Mildred aged 9 years; by her parents and several brothers and sisters.
