Mr. William Dickson

Mr. Dickson was born January 15, 1856 in Milan, the son of James and Ruth Ann Kelly Dickson, pioneer settlers. He married Mrs. Edith Brandenburg in Milan, Nov. 21, 1905 and with the exception of a few years spent in California and Florida, had always lived in the village.

In his travels he had been to every state in the union with the exception of one. He was a painting contractor, decorator and followed his trade until his retirement a few years ago. His grandfather William Dickson laid out the town of Camden now Milan in 1843 and built the Presbyterian Church in Milan in 1845. The first mill in Milan was built by Mr. Dickson's father.

Surviving are the widow and two step sons, C.A. and W.D. Brandenburg, Milan, three nieces, Mrs. Bruce Girton, Mason City, Iowa. Mrs. A.D. McCartney, Milan and Miss Anna Dickson, Rock Island and two nephews, J. Dickson Mathews and Paul J. Mathews, Milan. Mr. Dickson was precided in death by his parents, three brothers George, David and James Kelly Dickson and a sister, Mrs. Wilson Mathews.

Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock in the Milan Presbyterian Church with the Rev. R.E. Lemmon in charge. Pallbearers will be CA and WD Brandenburg, Dickson and Paul J. Mathews and R.W. Palmerall of Milan and DeWitt Gilt of Rock Island. Internment will be in Chippiannock Cemetery, Rock Island. The family asks that flowers be omitted.
