Stewartville

 

Dr. Jacob Stewart founded Moline 's first suburb in 1870the area was designed to be a pre-streetcar suburb.

Dr. Stewart purchased the land from 23rd to 29th avenues and from 14th to 19th streets. The physician sold residential homes to working class families as well as buildings for local businessmen.

With the arrival of streetcars came more businesses and residents. With growth in Moline and Stewartville, the city incorporated the suburb in 1896. However, years passed and the name Stewartville eventually disappeared.
