W. PAUL KOESTER, 40, DIES AT SILVIS OF HEART AILMENT
W.Paul Koester, 40, of 3414 Sixth avenue , Rock Island , an employee of the stores department of the Rock Island Lines in Silvis, died suddenly of a heart attack at 8:50 o'clock this morning while at work in the stores division at the Silvis shops.
A few minutes before he collapsed Mr. Koester, who is employed as a checker, came in the office of John Lindblad, general stores superintendent, and complained of feeling ill. He attributed his condition to indigestion and took some soda to relieve his discomfort. A few minutes later he slumped down in his chair and passed into unconsciousness. The Silvis respirator was sent for and Warren First, ambulance driver, and Harley Guthrie, police chief, responded. An attempt to revive the unconscious man was without success. Dr. Paul Powell of East Moline was summoned and after examining Koester pronounced him dead. Coroner J. W. Seids after questioning witnesses and making out a report on the circumstances surrounding Koester's death, announced that the holding of an inquest would not be necessary.
The body was removed to the Wheelan funeral home in Rock Island . Mr. Koester had been employed by the Rock Island Lines in Silvis for 20 years. A son of William D. and Anna Koester, he was born Aug. 1, 1903 , in Rock Island , where he was educated. He married Gladys Chaon Nov. 10, 1928, in Rock Island . He was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic church. Surviving are the widow; a daughter, Mary Ann, at home; his brother, J. Franklin Koester, Minneapolis . He was preceded in death by his parents.
