Toulon - E. Wayne Griffin, 89, of 120 E. Vine died at 3:40 p.m. Thursday, May 24, 2001, at Toulon Health Care Center, where he had been a resident for the past two months. Born Nov. 4, 1911, in Varna to Perry and Etta Slater Griffin, he married Margaret Catton on October 21, 1933, in Dunlap. She survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Dianne Boggs of Delavan and Shirley (and John) Wallis of Prophetstown; one son, Donald (and Pat) of New Bern, N.C.; six grandchildren; and one sister, Eva Hindman of Peoria Heights.

He was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters. He farmed in the Toulon area for many years and also worked for Kraft Foods in Toulon. He was superintendent of Toulon Water Works, retiring in 1978.
 

He served as sexton of Toulon Cemetery for several years and was a Toulon Township trustee for 28 years before retiring this year. He was a former member of the Toulon Fire Department. He was a member of Toulon United Methodist Church. Services will be 11 a.m. Tesday at DeBolt-Kidd Funral Home. The Rev. Paul Wier will officiate. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Toulon Cemetery. Memorials may be made to his church or the Toulon Fire Department.
