Kewanee - Sherman W. "Gus" Hoadley Jr., 73, died April 15, 1998, at St. Francis
Hospital in Peoria.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Cavanagh and Scheueneman
Funeral Home. Rev. Burnell Eckardt will officiate.
Visitation will be held from noon until the time of services.
Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery with military rites accorded by the Kewanee
Veterans Council.
Memorials may be made to his church.
He was born Feb. 24, 1925, in Wyoming, Ill., the son of Sherman W. and Dora E. (Brazee)
Hoadley. His family moved to Kewanee in the early 1930s where he attended
school.
He joined the U.S. Marine Paratroopers in 1942 and served in the 5th Marine
Division in the Pacific Theatre. He was wounded in action at Iwo Jima in
February 1943. He ten (sic) served in occupied Japan until his discharge in
1946.
He married Doris L. Johnson on March 8, 1946, in Kewanee.
Mr. Hoadley worked for Kewanee Boiler Corp. and later worked for Burlington
Northern Railroad as an operator telegrapher. He retired in 1970.
He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church and his hobbies included fishing,
woodworking, Nascar racing, and the Chicago Bulls.
Surviving are his wife and a son, Martin, of Kewanee. He was preceded in death
by his parents; a son John in 1979; and a sister, Ethel Anson.
