Obituary submitted by Shelly Harris
Bradford friends of the John Kegebein family were shocked when the news was
received here of the death of Mrs. Kegebein on Wednesday morning at the family
home in Princeville. Her passing was sudden, insofar that while she had been
suffering from a severe cold, she did not make her bed until about noon Monday,
and even then was not thought the affliction was of a serious nature. Wednesday
morning very early she asked for and was given refreshment of hot coffee, which
apparently made her more comfortable. About daybreak, there seemed to be a
decided change for the worse and the family physician was called hurriedly, who
when he arrived at once realized that the sick woman had but a few moments to
live and soon after 7 o'clock the spirit left the body. In the short time the
physician was at the bedside of Mrs. Kegebein, he was unable to determine the
cause of death and Coroner Elliott of Peoria county held an inquest on Wednesday
afternoon. An autopsy was performed by two Princeville physicians which revealed
the cause of death as acute double pneumonia.
Mrs. Kegebein was born at Sheffield in 1873 and was married to Mr. Kegebein at
Bradford in 1893. She was the mother of five children, three of whom survive
her, the eldest 11 years and the youngest 4 years of age. Her death comes as a
hard blow to the family and sympathy is universal in the community.
The funeral was held at the Princeville Presbyterian Church and the body was
brought to Bradford Friday for her burial.
