New Lancaster (long since forgotten) was laid out. The church has been out of use for many years, and the cemetery as long. If not longer. All the stones are down Some of them broken, and some covered with dirt so they had to be cleaned before they can be read. The graves are in a small clump of trees but in sorry condition.

LANCASTER OR SUGAR GROVE CEMETERY
From the "OLD TIME" Colunn in the Review Atlas dated July 29, 1937 comes this article about the Sugar Grove Cemetery .
This cemetery is located a mile north of Old Salem (one mile north of Route 124 and a little over a half mile west, on a farm once owned by Lee Johnson of Roseville. It is situated on a knoll a short distance south of the house,
Nancy Piper Meacham , wife of Miles G. Meacham, is buried there, she died in 1845, was nineteen years of age at the time of her death. His second wife, Rebecca Coleman Meacham, was also buried there in 1852.
Just a short distance east, on the road running north and south is an old church, known as the Sugar Grove Church , and was of the United Brethren denomination. The building was still standing in 1937 and at that tine it was used for a machine shed. It hadn't been used for church services for 35 years.
This church and cemetery are located about a mile south west of the place where the town of Lancaster once stood, and no doubt it was known as the Lancaster Cemetery to some.
Ellison township On 34 west to Kirkwood then 5 miles to Smithshire.
*Vance Smith now owns the land where the cemetery is located.. If you need to contact him his number is 309-426-2530
