SURREY.
Surrey is a station and postoffice on the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe railroad, located at the center of Section 26. The post- office was established in July, 1894, with Frank Bowen as postmaster. He was succeeded February 28, 1896, by C. M. Bolcn, who still holds the office.
A half mile east of Surrey, on the east side of Section 26. is Bethel Methodist Episcopal church. The society was organized in August, 1868 or 1869, with the families of John Underwood, Robert Gillespie,, James McFarland, and Mr. Lufre as members. The church building was erected about the same time at a cost of $2,000.
The society is now disorganized, but Sunday school is held regularly, with preaching on alternate Sundays by Rev. Mr. Hales, of the Cameron charge.
