FORWARD Stumbaugh Cemetery, located in Montgomery township, virtually on the border between Woodford and Tazewell counties, has been abandoned for years. The last recorded burial was 1948. For decades, neighbors have kept the grass mown, carefully moving broken headstones to central locations to make the mowing easier. Orin and Loretta Rush live next to the abandoned Stumbaugh Cemetery. For many years, Orin mowed the cemetery. Orin wishes to be buried in the cemetery so Loretta sought out Mary Eschelbach. Mary organized the committee and work began in 2009. Mary does not have permission from the state of Illinois for a burial to take place in Stumbaugh. ~Carole Martin Stumbaugh Committee Members The following people donated materials and/or time to restore the Stumbaugh Cemetery. 1.
